Chapter 01
Wind, fire or water: what to leave alone until we get there
When wind, fire, or water damages the electrical at your home or business and you need repair or an inspection right away, our electricians provide 24/7 emergency electrical service and work to get your life back to normal as quickly as it can safely be done.
Until someone qualified has looked at it, treat anything the damage touched as live. Stay clear of standing water near outlets, cords or the panel, and do not wade in to reach a breaker. If a power line is down outside, keep away from it and call the utility. Do not try to move it or the things it is touching.
After a fire, scorched wiring can look fine and still be damaged inside the insulation. After a flood, water that reached a box or outlet can leave moisture and grit behind that cause trouble weeks later. Neither is a guess to make on your own.

Inspection comes before the power does
Restoring power is the easy part. Knowing it is safe to restore is the work. We trace the damage from the point of the fire, leak or storm hit back toward the panel, and we look at what is on the way: cable, devices, fixtures, junction boxes and the panel itself.
Do not reset a breaker that tripped on a wet or scorched circuit. A breaker trips to protect the wiring, and forcing it back on tells you nothing about whether the circuit is sound. If the panel or meter was exposed to water, leave it off and call us.
What is damaged gets repaired or replaced, what is sound stays, and the power goes back on in stages so a problem shows itself on a single circuit rather than the whole building. The inspector confirms the rest.
Chapter 03
Getting your life back to normal, one trade at a time
An electrical emergency is rarely the only problem. Drying crews, drywall, flooring and roofing all need power or need to work around it, so the order matters. We coordinate with the people handling the rest of the cleanup so lights, outlets and equipment come back in a sequence that suits the job.
Along the way, keep notes and photos for your insurer: what failed, when you noticed it, and what was shut off. A ceiling opened to the joists, like the one in the photo on this page, shows exactly what the fire and water reached, and that picture is worth keeping.
When the repair is finished, we walk you through what was done and what, if anything, is worth upgrading later. A panel that has been through water or heat is a good candidate for a closer look.
