Whole-home rewiring and wiring upgrades for older Yakima Valley houses
Old wiring rarely announces itself. It shows up as a flicker, a warm outlet or a plug that will not stay in. We walk the house, read the system as it stands, and recommend the changes that fit.
Chapter 01
What wears out in older Yakima Valley wiring
A house wired decades ago was built for a different life: a few lamps, a radio, one television. Today the same circuits carry space heaters, window units, a home office and a kitchen full of countertop appliances. The wire is asked to do more than it was ever sized for, and the insulation around it has aged the whole time.
The signs are usually small. Two-prong outlets with no ground. Cloth-wrapped or brittle old insulation showing where a wall was opened. Lights that flicker when the refrigerator kicks on, outlets that feel warm, breakers that trip whenever a few things run together, plugs that fall out of loose receptacles.
Then there is the odd wiring: splices tucked in a wall, a junction box buried behind drywall, extra circuits added years ago by someone doing a quick favor. It works until it does not. Finding it early is far cheaper than finding it after a failure.

Walk the house, then recommend the changes
Our approach is the same on every home. A licensed electrician looks at the current state of your electrical system and recommends the proper changes or potential upgrades to what you already have. We do not assume. We trace what is in the walls, check the panel, and test the circuits that concern you.
From there the choice is yours, and we lay it out plainly. Whole-Home Rewiring is the right answer when the wiring throughout the house has aged out, or when walls are open for a remodel and it makes sense to do the job once. Wiring Upgrades are the right answer when the problem sits in one room, one circuit or one run, and the rest of the system is sound. Electrical Upgrades & Repairs cover the smaller fixes in between, and Lighting Upgrades can go in at the same visit when the circuits are already open.
That honest read matters to the customer. Julia Snyder DSS MA LMT, who called us for a second opinion on another company’s bid, wrote in her five-star Google review: “Rather than make assumptions, they started with a fresh mind and reinvestigated the situation.” She says the alternative solution they found saved $3500.
Chapter 03
Why it matters, and what you should notice after
Every job is built to the code that applies to it, and the inspector confirms the work before it is closed up. We do not guess at the rules and we do not skip the sign-off. Wiring that passes inspection is wiring the next owner can trust, and one an insurer can look at without a red flag.
Afterward, the house should feel quieter. Outlets that hold a plug, lights that stay steady when the refrigerator or a vacuum starts, no warm cover plates, and no breaker that trips without a clear cause. Grounded outlets replace the two-prong ones where the work calls for it, and the circuits are labelled at the panel so you know what is on what.
If anything still flickers, buzzes or runs warm after the work, tell us. Bigfoot Electric has been a WA-licensed electrical contractor in Yakima since 2017, and the crew would rather come back and look than leave you wondering.
